PMA 3880: Fundamentals of Directing I
Cornell University, Fall 2015
TA with David Feldshuh
Focused, practical exercises teach the student fundamental staging techniques that bring written text to theatrical life. A core objective is to increase the student's awareness of why and how certain stage events communicate effectively to an audience. Each student directs a number of exercises as well as a short scene.
Collisions in Space: A Theatre Adaptation Workshop
Hamilton College, Spring 2015
Guest artist in The Orchard Pilot residency
This experimental workshop is for those interested in using embodied performance to adapt text for the stage, and specifically focuses on how different writings can be brought together to produce a fascinating theatrical synergy: the theatre mashup. Through coordinated group work and playful exercises, participants will explore the performance potentials of a piece of poetry or prose of their choice. We will then collaborate to bring these short plays together into several slightly longer pieces that incorporate elements from several texts, forcing them to collide in unexpected and unusual ways. Participants will leave with written outlines of their adapted performance(s), and with a wealth of ideas for staging these adaptation(s).
